Live Design Q&A: Designing Morgan Wallen's One Night At A Time

Jessi Cybulski interviewed Cort Lawrence for Live Design in July 2024 about One Night At A Time, where he was show designer, show director and creative director. The decision he keeps coming back to is refusing to let the video wall dominate. Instead of a screen behind the artist, the design put a video header above Wallen and pushed performance areas out into the stadium so he could physically move closer to sections of the crowd.
Lawrence goes deep on execution. Two weeks of pre-programming in Los Angeles using Depence for previs, then rehearsals in Lititz, Pennsylvania, running grandMA's Mode 3 software and Disguise media servers. The set pieces get their own answer: a drum riser lift with a breakaway wooden door underneath for the entrance, the replica of Wallen's Mamaw's house, and the baseball bleachers lit by a chandelier built from seventy Sixpar 200IPs. He also lists the rig fixture by fixture, which is rarer than it should be.
